Marquette Lockett
Recreation Director
Marquette Lockett brings unmatched energy, creativity, and leadership to his role as Recreation Director at Building Men and Women for a Change. A lifelong athlete and passionate advocate for youth engagement, Marquette—known to many as Mark—has made it his mission to create accessible, inclusive, and meaningful recreation opportunities for the Hibbing community.
Mark’s love for sports goes far beyond the game. Whether it’s basketball, football, baseball, or outdoor adventure, he’s lived the values of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance—both on and off the field. His firsthand experience as an athlete and community leader helps him design programs that inspire connection, confidence, and personal growth.
One of his most impactful initiatives is the development of BMWFC’s fishing program—an outdoor recreational opportunity that connects youth and families to nature in a way that promotes patience, focus, and life skills. Recognizing that not every child connects with traditional team sports, Mark created a space where all participants can feel included and empowered. It’s just one example of how he listens to the needs of the community and responds with thoughtful, practical solutions.
In addition to his role at BMWFC, Mark serves as a general manager at a local business and is actively pursuing a degree in business. His experience in business management brings strong organizational skills, strategic planning, and people leadership to everything he does. These qualities ensure BMWFC’s recreational programs are not only fun and engaging—but also well-organized, sustainable, and impactful.
Mark is also a local entrepreneur, owning and operating two small businesses. His ability to manage multiple operations while staying community-focused speaks to his dedication, work ethic, and drive to build lasting change.
At BMWFC, Marquette sees recreation as more than just activity—it’s a gateway to belonging, leadership, and personal development. Under his guidance, the recreation department continues to grow with innovative programs that serve youth and families across the Hibbing area.
